Costumes

❖ Dancers will wear a variety of costumes throughout the year, each appropriate for the style of dance they are performing. Costume fees will cover the cost of team dance attire.

❖ Costume fees include four vital, non-negotiable aspects:

  1. Costume Rental —At CVB, we keep a costume library and check the costumes out to the dancers each year. We add to this library each year by purchasing a new costume for each team or sometimes more depending on the need. By utilizing a costume library as opposed to a “purchase and keep” model, we are able to provide beautiful costumes for each dancer at every competition and performance. Please be aware that all costume fees are nonrefundable, and the full amount is owed by October 3 for all dancers.

  2. Seamstress —We have an amazing seamstress who helps to make our
dancers look fantastic by doing alterations for us and helping to create new costumes.

  3. Costume Bag Rental —We provide an official CVB costume bag for each dancer to safely organize, store, and transport costumes.

  4. Additional Necessary Costume Pieces—We provide the required fishnet tights (to keep), spandex (to keep) & leotards (to return), and other accessories such as props, hats, etc.

  • ❖  If a dancer leaves/quits CVB for any reason and his or her costume has already been ordered, the entire costume fee is still required by October 3 and non-refundable.

  • ❖  Team costumes are designed with modesty in mind in order for students to feel comfortable as they perform.

  • ❖  Dancers may be asked to supply their own costumes for the end of year finale or a novelty dance—hopefully using items they already own.

    5. Additional Costumes for Competitions

  • ❖  Couples competing in Opens or Cabaret routines arrange for their own costumes.

  • ❖  Attire for Individual Syllabus routines for competitions will include the following items, and each dancer is responsible for providing these items themselves:

    • Boys – a white button-down shirt, a tie, and black pants. Most boys wear the black pants

provided by the studio, and provide their own black tie and button-down white shirt.

    • Girls – a black top (shirt or leotard) and black knee-length skirt. See below.

Helpful Hints for Syllabus Attire:

The black skirt for girls needs to be knee length and not tight. Amazon has several that would work. Amy Byers is a good brand. You want the material to be a poly/spandex blend. We have found that these hold up better and do not require ironing. Below are several appropriate styles:
